Über die koreanische Künstlerin Minjeong An weiß ich nur, dass sie 1981 geboren wurde. Und dass sie ein paar ziemlich cyborgeske Diagramme in ihrem Portfolio hat. Wenn ihre Webseite wieder down ist, kann man sich ihre besten Arbeiten auch bei 50 Watts ansehen.

Swissted ist ein Projekt von Mike Joyce, der meine alten Punk Rock Helden mit Schweizer Typografie zusammenbringt – hat eigentlich nichts miteinander zu tun, sieht aber großartig aus!

swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. each poster is sized to the standard swiss kiosk dimensions of 35.5 inches wide by 50 inches high and set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase. every single one of these shows actually happened.

Stefan Fürtbauer dokumentiert Imbissbuden in Wien, ein Projekt ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Die fortlaufende Fotoserie heisst "Eiterquellen", in Anlehnung auf den umgangssprachlichen Namen für Käsekrainer ("Eitrige").

"Eiterquellen" is an ongoing project about Viennese Diners and the little different Viennese fast-food-culture. Most of the time these Diners are isolated islands of food supply in an ancient surrounding with plenty of cultural heritage. Interessanter Ansatz, ein einfaches Gericht zu verkomplizieren: Die New York Times zeigt ein bischen Nudelgeometrie aus dem Buch Pasta by Design von George L. Legrande. Wer die Gleichungen innerhalb der Kochzeit auflöst, darf sich Chefkoch nennen.

Architect George L. Legrande has compiled and profiled 92 different kinds of pasta, classifying them into types using the science of phylogeny (the study of relatedness among natural forms). Opening the book is a pasta family tree, revealing unexpected relationships between pasta shapes, their usage and common DNA. Each subsequent spread is devoted to a single pasta, and features a short text that explains the foods geographical origin, its process of manufacture as well as its etymology alongside suggestions for minute-perfect preparation. Next the pasta shape is rendered as both a mathematical equation and a line diagram that displays every distinctive scrunch, ridge and crimp with loving precision.

Die Rainbow Machine ist ein mobiles Device auf Arduino-Basis, das per Lightwriting einen Regenbogen als Foto-Hintergrund generiert. Die Bilder werden anschließend bei Flickr hochgeladen. Für Selberbauer gibts eine Anleitung bei github.

We set the machine up at events for people to have their photo taken with it. Ein paar Seitenwindlandungen in Düsseldorf, vor ein paar Tagen während Sturm "Andrea" gefilmt. Mir hats bei dem Wetter schon gereicht, den Kinderwagen zur Bücherhalle zu schieben. Bei Seitenwindlandungen werden übrigens folgende, ähm, Styles unterschieden:

Drei gängige Landetechniken bei Seitenwind sind:
- die Seitenwindlandung mit hängender Tragfläche (Sideslip)
- die Seitenwindlandung mit Vorhaltewinkel (de-crab) 
- die Kombination von Vorhaltewinkel und hängender Tragfläche (crab & slip)

Niels Post, niederländischer Künstler und Blogger, hat Sätze aus Business-Spam-Mails auf die Schaufenster leerstehender Geschäfte in Berlin gepappt. Ich bin begeistert!

A series of interventions/photographs for which I collect sentences from business proposals that are being emailed to me and that I have plotted out as vinyl adhesive letters. With those sentences I look for vacant commercial windows (shops, offices). Once a suitable window is found I then paste a sentence on the empty shopping window. Oddly enough the business opportunities a vacant shopping space offer work beautifully with the empty promises of loads of money in your email box

Fake Holidays ist eine interessant skurrile Foto-Serie von Reiner Riedler, der Menschen in (ihren) simulierten Traumreisewelten zeigt. Von Fototapete über Freizeitparks und Bluescreen ist bis auf Balkonien so ziemlich alles vertreten: 

When wishes are out of reach, simulation is taking over our leisure time and our holidays. Imaginary worlds are created, often under massive technological exertion, in order to offer us experience as reproducible merchandise. Although the quality of these adventures on demand sometimes proves to be rather dubious, the boom does shed light on one thing: the yearnings and dreams underlying people’s daily lives.
