Niels Post: On Spam, Business Proposals

Niels Post, niederländischer Künstler und Blogger, hat Sätze aus Business-Spam-Mails auf die Schaufenster leerstehender Geschäfte in Berlin gepappt. Ich bin begeistert!

A series of interventions/photographs for which I collect sentences from business proposals that are being emailed to me and that I have plotted out as vinyl adhesive letters. With those sentences I look for vacant commercial windows (shops, offices). Once a suitable window is found I then paste a sentence on the empty shopping window. Oddly enough the business opportunities a vacant shopping space offer work beautifully with the empty promises of loads of money in your email box

Fake Holidays ist eine interessant skurrile Foto-Serie von Reiner Riedler, der Menschen in (ihren) simulierten Traumreisewelten zeigt. Von Fototapete über Freizeitparks und Bluescreen ist bis auf Balkonien so ziemlich alles vertreten: 

When wishes are out of reach, simulation is taking over our leisure time and our holidays. Imaginary worlds are created, often under massive technological exertion, in order to offer us experience as reproducible merchandise. Although the quality of these adventures on demand sometimes proves to be rather dubious, the boom does shed light on one thing: the yearnings and dreams underlying people’s daily lives.

Mir persönlich gefällt dieses Vogelhäuschen mindestens so gut wie der Trailer für den neuen Batman.

Möglicherweise mein letztes Posting 2011, weil noch immer unterwegs. Dafür aber was besonderes, das ruhig ein paar Tage länger oben im Blog stehen darf: Ronny alias Das Kraftfuttermischwerk hat zu Weihnachten ein neues Album unter CC-Lizenz veröffentlicht. Komet Lovejoy von Bord der ISS fotografiert

Foto vom Komet mit dem tollen Namen "Lovejoy" – ein Weihnachtsstern quasi: Nachdem er Mitte Dezember wider Erwarten einen Vorbeiflug an der Sonne in 140000 Kilometer Entfernung überlebt hat, bekam ihn vor ein paar Tagen NASA-Astronaut Dan Burbank von Bord der Internationalen Raumstation aus überraschend vor die Linse. Bei YouTube gibts das zugehörige Lovejoy-Video, in dem Burbank über seine Kometensichtung spricht.

Space Trek

Space Trek ist ein Tumblr, das in prima Screenshots die "quiet despair of the Starship Enterprise" zeigt. Ich persönlich empfinde da beim Betrachten allerdings keine stille Verzweiflung. Solche Gefühle überkommen mich eher bei Ikea oder in einen überfüllten ICE. Nicht aber bei Standbildern einer Enterprise, die nicht nur einrichtungsmäßig die Schweden locker in die Tasche steckt, sondern auch so leer ist, wie ich mir meinen Zug morgen wünsche ...

ATLAS Teilchendetektor als Lego Modell

Sascha Mehlhase, promovierter Physiker am Niels-Bohr-Institut der Uni Kopenhagen arbeitend, hat den Teilchendetektor ATLAS am LHC in Lego nachgebaut. Higgs, Higgs, Hurra!

As part of an outreach project at the Niels Bohr Institute I have recently designed a model of the ATLAS experiment in LEGO® bricks. It illustrates all details, from the muon and magnet system to the innermost pixel detector and will hopefully be a great eye-catcher for all generations. Here's some key features:
- about 9500 pieces
- roughly 1:50 in scale (close to scale with the LEGO® man)
- material cost of about 2000 Euros (payed by the high energy physics group at the Niels Bohr Institute)
- about 1 m x 0.5 m x 0.5 m in size
- approximately 33 hours construction time (spread out over several weekends and after hours)
- around 48 hours to build the 3D model (a one-timer though)

Polizeibrutalität als Ausmalbuch

Der New Yorker Künstler Joe Heaps hat ein fotokopiertes, selbstgebundenes Ausmalbuch zum Thema Polizeibrutalität herausgebracht, nachdem eine Freundin während der Occupy-Proteste eine Ladung Pfefferspray abbekommen hatte. Ein paar Malvorlagen daraus gibts bei Wired:

Forty-six artists, including Shepard Fairey, have contributed black-and-white artwork to the Police Brutality Coloring Book, a 48-page DIY publication inspired by incidents of violent police action against Occupy Wall Street activists. “I wasn’t directly involved with the movement, but I had been down there a few times and was sympathetic to the cause,” said Police Brutality Coloring Book creator Joe “Heaps” Nelson ... Then it turned out that Chelsea Elliott, one of four women pepper-sprayed during a Sep. 24 protest march in Manhattan, was a friend of a friend of the New York artist.  The incident, and others like it, spurred Nelson into action. “I am outraged at how the police are treating people,” he said, “and moral outrage is not my default setting. And then when I saw that guy at Cal Davis [University of California at Davis campus police Lt. John Pike] calmly spray those kids in the face, I knew I had to do something.”

Exoplanetarische Reiseposter

Ich packe dann mal meine Koffer und gehe zum nächsten Weltraumbahnhof: Chungkong hat ein sechsteiliges Set mit exoplanetarischen Reisezielen entworfen:

The images were innocent and exotic. Pure.
