Bei Instructables hat jemand eine Anleitung gepostet, wie man mit einfachen Mitteln eine recht hübsche Taschenlampe mit Zitronenbatterie basteln kann. Allerdings bin ich mir nicht so sicher, ob ich die Zitrone hinterher noch essen würde – chemischer Prozess und so.

Motherboard hat eine unterhaltsame Mini-Doku über Doctor Laser, einen der letzten verbliebenen Laser-Holografie-Künstler:

Star Wars Uncut veröffentlicht

Letztes Jahr hatte Casey Pugh den ersten Teil von Star Wars in 473 Teile a 14 Sekunden zerstückelt und Menschen in aller Welt dazu aufgerufen, die Szenen nachzudrehen, um die eingereichten Beiträgen anschließend zu einem DIY-Star Wars-Film zusammenzusetzen. Seit April ist das das Projekt abgeschlossen und ich habe seither gespannt auf die Veröffentlichung gewartet, die nun – tatata – im Projekt-Blog bekannt gegeben wurde:

Die einzige Benimmregeln für Bus und Bahn an die ich mich spontan erinnern kann, lautet "Walk leise Mann", hing in den 80ern als miese Illustration in Straßenbahnen aus und hatte damit zu tun, dass man  – surprise – seinen Walkman immer schön leise stellen sollte.

Die (vermutlich) erste Digitalkamera der Welt. Steve Sasson, der verantwortlichen Kodak-Ingenieur, über die Knipse:

"In December of 1975, after a year of piecing together a bunch of new technology in a back lab at the Elmgrove Plant in Rochester, we were ready to try it.  “It” being a rather odd-looking collection of digital circuits that we desperately tried to convince ourselves was a portable camera.  It had a lens that we took from a used parts bin from the Super 8 movie camera production line downstairs from our little lab on the second floor in Bldg 4.  On the side of our portable contraption, we shoehorned in a portable digital cassette instrumentation recorder.  Add to that 16 nickel cadmium batteries, a highly temperamental new type of CCD imaging area array, an a/d converter implementation stolen from a digital voltmeter application, several dozen digital and analog circuits all wired together on approximately half a dozen circuit boards, and you have our interpretation of what a portable all electronic still camera might look like ..." Roboterarm als Formel 1 Simulator

Wissenschaftler vom Max Planck Institut für biologische Kybernetik in Tübingen haben aus einem Roboterarm einen Formel 1-Simulator gebaut (der Roboter ist übrigens vom selben Hersteller, wie jener Gärtnerbot)  Wer sich für die technischen Details interessiert, kann die bei IEEE Spektrum nachlesen. Was dort nicht steht ist, warum Ingenieure einen solchen Aufwand treiben und dann derart lahme Software verwenden – die selbe Frage, die ich mir schon seinerzeit beim DIY-Formel1-Simulator gestellt habe.
