Nowadays birds are not welcome under rooftiles anymore, so they lost a beautifull nest place. Placing a house on top of a rooftile, now created a nice place for a birdsnest. And also better to spot!(via NOTCOT)

Wired hat Applied Materials besucht, einen der weltweit größten Hersteller von Anlagen zur Halbleiter-Produktion, und sich dort einen Reinraum angeschaut. Im Gadget Lab gibts ein paar Fotos davon:
"Its 39,000 square feet of ultraclean workspace ... divided into three huge "ballrooms," each of which is crammed full of Applied's multimillion-dollar machines, alongside pipes, tubes, spare parts, tanks of caustic chemicals, Craftsman tool chests and huge racks of silicon wafers. To get inside, you must suit up in a bunny suit, with a face mask and goggles, two pairs of gloves, and shoe-covering footies. Schade, dass ich Last.fm so selten benutze: Andy hat den Last Graph (analysiert einen Last.fm Account, welche Musik man am häufigsten hört und visualisiert das Ergebnis in Wellenform) genommen, sich seinen Musikgeschmack in riesengroß ausgedruckt und als Wandschmuck ins Wohnzimmer gehängt. Penney Design hat sich überlegt, wie Facebook auf einer DOS-Kiste anno 1984 ausgesehen haben könnte. Besonders gefallen mir die Sticker über den Diskettenlaufwerken ...
"Personal project imagining a how Facebook would have looked on an old fashioned computer in 1984, using a pixelated DOS-style font and a heavy use of texture, lighting and reflection. Höhle die wie Supermans Festung der Einsamkeit aussieht
In der Mine von Naica in Mexiko gibt es eine Höhle mit riesigen Kristallen, die bis zu 50 Tonnen wiegen. Und wie im Make:Blog treffend bemerkt wird: Das Ganze hat eine frappierende Ähnlichkeit mit der Festung der Einsamkeit, bekannt aus diversen Superman-Geschichten. Die Freiheitsstatue wird jährlich angeblich von über 600 Blitzen getroffen. Trotzdem hat es den New Yorker Fotograf Jay Fine über 40 Jahre gekostet, bis im dieser Schnappschuss gelungen ist:
"I had been watching weather reports so I knew a storm was coming and it just seemed like a great opportunity. I was ready and waiting and took 81 shots before finally getting this one. Niklas Roy hat eine Werkstatt in einem ehemaligen Laden mit Schaufenster zur Straße hin. Um etwas mehr Privatsphäre zu haben, hat er sich mit einer Überwachungskamera, einem Laptop und ein wenig anderem Kram einen "schlauen" Vorhang gebastelt:
"The curtain is smaller than the window, but an additional surveillance camera and an old laptop provide it with intelligence: The computer sees the pedestrians and locates them. With a motor attached, it positions the curtain exactly where the pedestrians are ... But in the end, it doesn’t protect my privacy at all. It seems that the existence of my little curtain is leading itself ad absurdum, simply by doing its job very well. Ronny vom Kraftfuttermischwerk hat ein schönes Stück Zeitgeschichte ausgegraben:
"Wie letztens schon erwähnt, habe ich im Keller einen Müllsack voll mit Dias gefunden. Ein Teil davon widmet sich einzig dem Konsumangebot der DDR im Jahre 1990, wo der Westen schon einen Großteil der Regale für sich beansprucht hatte. Pogo, schon länger für seine tollen Mashups bekannt, hat sein jüngstes Meisterwerk ausschließlich aus Samples der ersten vier Staffeln Dexter (nach wie vor eine meiner Lieblingserien) kreiert. Kann man sich aber auch ohne Dexter-Fan zu sein gut anschauen bzw. -hören oder?
