Bei How to be a Retronaut kann man sich den Scifi-Klassiker The Time Machine von H.G. Wells in Form eines alten Comics zu Gemüte führen. Leider nervt die Navigation durch die immerhin 46 Seiten ein wenig, nach jedem Umblättern muss man erneut aufs Vergrößerungsdings klicken und warten muss: “The Time-Machine” Comic

Boilerplate soll verfilmt werden

Ich lese gerade, dass Paramount sich die Rechte an Boilerplate gesichert hat und angeblich die Produktionsfirma von J.J. Abrams den Film realisieren soll. Ob das jetzt gute oder eher schlechte Nachrichten sind? Für den Fall, dass es tatsächlich so kommt, drücke ich prophylaktisch beide Daumen, dass der Name von Abrams Produktionsfirma nicht Programm wird ...

Wer Boilerplate nicht kennt, hier ein Auschnitt aus der englischen Wikipedia:

"Boilerplate is a fictional robot of the Victorian era and early 20th century ... Boilerplate originally featured on a website created by Paul Guinan in 2000 as an online pitch for a graphic novel. Alle Cover von Marvels Jugendmagazin Pizzazz aus den 70ern

Ende der 70er hatte Marvel Comics eine zeitlang ein Jugendmagazin namens Pizzazz am Start, dass es auf 16 Ausgaben gebracht hat, ehe es eingestellt wurde. Bei Rebelscum kann man sich die Cover aller erschienenen Ausgaben ansehen. Die Wikipedia über das Mag:

"Pizzazz was a magazine published by Marvel Comics from 1977 to 1979, for a total run of 16 issues. Aimed at the youth culture, Pizzazz mostly contained articles about popular movies, rock stars, et cetera, as well as comic strips and puzzles. Recurring features included a comic about Amy Carter's life as the President's daughter, a serialized Star Wars comic, and a one-page comic by Harvey Kurtzman (usually from the 1940s) on the last page. Mickey Mouse auf Speed und als Dealer in Afrika

Hätte ich nicht gedacht, dass ich hier mal eine Mickey Mouse-Geschichte verlinke:

Im Makers Market gibts ein ziemlich tolles, 56-teiliges Poster-Set mit Mars Attacks-Motiven. Keine Bilder aus dem Film, den wir alle mögen, sondern Reprints einer mir bis eben unbekannten Kaugummi-Bilder-Serie von anno dazumal.

Vintage Comic: Der Ursprung der Daleks

Wer sich für den Doktor Who-Kosmos oder genauer gesagt für Daleks interessiert und Vintage Comics mag, für den hat Atomic Surgery die ersten dreizehn Strips von "The Daleks". Und wenn man von dort aus ein bisschen den Links folgt, bekommt man noch einiges mehr zu sehen.

Manga farming von Koshi Kawachi

Ich hab mal eine zeitlang in einem Comic-Laden gejobbt und zu den lästigen Tätigkeiten gehörte, die wöchentlichen Großlieferungen (keine Raritäten, sondern Massenware ...) in Schutzhüllen einzutüten. Insofern finde ich das, was Koshi Kawachi mit Comics macht, sehr befreiend: 

"Tokyo-based artist Koshi Kawachi recently demonstrated his “Manga Farming” technique — which uses old manga as a growing medium for vegetables — by cultivating a crop of radish sprouts in an installation at the Matsuzakaya department store in Nagoya." Manga farming

(Und ja, mir ist klar, dass die Manga-Industrie in Japan jährlich mehr Papier verarbeitet, als die dortigen Klopapierfabriken.)

Superman vs. Muhammad Ali als Statue

Im Herbst 2010 bringt DC eine Neuauflage des Comics Superman vs. Muhammad Ali raus, den ich schon immer mal lesen wollte. Nicht weil ich Superman-Fan wäre, mehr aus Gründen der Allgemeinbildung – und natürlich um zu sehen, wie The Greatest den Stählernen in den Ringstaub schickt. Und damit ich das bis Jahresende nicht wieder vergesse, pappe ich mir zur Erinnerung dieses 250 Dollar teuere Plastikdings ins Blog.

Batmans Vater war schon Batman

Ich hab gedacht, dass ich mich einigermaßen im Batman-Kosmos auskenne, aber man lernt nie aus:
