Edingwe, Dragon, City Train, Mbokotomo : the “legends” of Congolese wrestling invent themselves on a daily basis in the outskirts of Kinshasa. Body-building, and even black magic enthusiasts fight for glory in makeshift rings. They come from the streets and their charisma commands respect and admiration. But the heros of the ring are modest in victory : « Kobeta libanga papa mundele » [we manage, white man]. In the last hours of the day, when they have hung up their everyday “occupations”, they put on masks and wrestling kit ready to fight. The motorised parade of wrestlers attracts crowds from the dusty streets of Massina, Ngili and Matete, towns round the Congolese capital. In back yards, on the tables of the street cafés, or even in the street, the spell casters warm up over primus stoves and cannabis. The ring is hastily set up, the judge climbs onto the ropes. “Let the match begin!” The fight starts and is usually more or less fixed. Rounds follow one another until the final spell is cast, until the adversary is floored, until the next fight.

Podcast: Zombie 2.0 – Die Perfektionierung der Untoten
Dass Zombies thematisch weder tot noch so langweilig wie zweite Staffel von The Walking Dead sind, zeigt Jochen Dreier mit seinem Feature für den SWR, in dem er Zombies als gesellschaftliche Metapher nimmt und sich mit Ausschnitten aus Nachrichten, Filmen, Interviews und Songs dem Thema collagenhaft nähert. Stream gibts hier, die Sendung als MP3 runterladen [53:27, 128MB] kann man sich bei René, der gegen Ende auch zu Wort kommt.
Zombie-Videos, Zombie-Spiele, Zombie-Bücher, Zombie-Blogs. Nie waren die Untoten so lebendig wie heute. Mehr als 100 abendfüllende Zombie-Filme wurden in den letzten zehn Jahren gedreht. Wer die Leichen lieber live erlebt, kann sich bei sogenannten Zombie-Walks beteiligen und als bleich und blutig geschminktes Wesen sein Unwesen in der Fußgängerzone treiben. Alles nur Horror-Karneval? Oder sind die lebenden Leichen eine besondere Ausgeburt der gegenwärtigen Finanzkrise? Es scheint jedenfalls kein Zufall, dass die Untoten vermehrt im Schatten des toten Kapitals auftreten. Schon sprechen Wirtschaftsexperten von "Zombie-Banken" und "Zombie Economics": zielstrebig, willenlos, immer vorwärts, alles auffressen. Es scheint als habe unsere Gesellschaft im Zombie ihre Metapher gefunden.

"I was really drawn to the idea of a lone character made of light surfing through darkness," says Sutton of his costume choice. "I've always been excited by unusual ways of lighting things, so it seemed like an exciting idea to make the subject of the film the only light source." Sutton ... spent three nights on a skidoo with his trusty Red Epic camera at temperatures of -25C to snap Hughes carving effortlessly through the deep snow, even enlisting his own father to help maintain the temperamental suit throughout the demanding shoot. "Filming in the suit was the most surreal thing I've done in 20 years of snowboarding," says Hughes of the charged salopettes. "Luckily there was plenty of vin rouge to keep me warm, and Jacob's enthusiasm kept everyone going through the cold nights."

Migration von Paolo Patrizi ist eine bedrückende Serie über illegale Migrantinnen aus Nigeria, die in Italien auf dem Staßen- bzw. Wald- und Wiesenstrich anschaffen.
"The phenomenon of foreign women, who line the roadsides of Italy, has become a notorious fact of Italian life. These women work in sub-human conditions; they are sent out without any hope of regularizing their legal status and can be easily transferred into criminal networks. Many are Africans working as prostitutes to send money home to their families. For nearly twenty years the women of Benin City, a town in the state of Edo in the south-central part of Nigeria, have been going to Italy to work in the sex trade and every year successful ones have been recruiting younger girls to follow them. The Nigerian trafficking industry is fueled by the combination of widespread emigration aspirations and severely limited possibilities for migrating to Europe. The term Trafficking of persons is restricted to instances where people are deceived, threatened, or coerced into situations of exploitation, including prostitution ...
