Ground Zero II: Maps basierter Atombombensimulator

Mit Ground Zero II kann man einen Atomschlag auf eine beliebige Stadt simulieren. Die Waffenauswahl reicht dabei von der nuklearen Kofferbombe über diverse Atombomben bis hin zu einem Asteroid. Letzterer strahlt zwar nicht, was ich aber angesichts seiner Zerstörungskraft mal vernachlässige. Bei den Auswirkungen kann man zwischen Explosion, Druckwelle und Fallout wechseln. Ich habe diverse Szenarien mit meinem Wohnort Hamburg durchgespielt und sage mal so: die Mieten im gesamten Stadtgebiet sind gerade dramatisch gesunken ...

Laura Spector und Chadwick Gray machen im Rahmen ihres Projekts "Museum Anatomy" ziemlich tolles Bodypainting:

Museum Anatomy is a collection of documentary photographs of works from museums around the world that have been recreated onto the human body. The artwork goes through a significant process until reaching the final outcome, a photograph of Chadwick, sometimes unrecognizable as a human form, with an elaborate, detailed painting covering a portion of his body. The recreated paintings of these historic portraits recapture the subjects in their own moment in history. Da werden Kindheitserinnerungen wach: René hat ein tolles Set mit Covern der Comicserie Gespenster Geschichten bei Flickr hochgeladen. Die eine oder andere Ausgabe davon habe ich selber noch bei meinen Eltern auf dem Dachboden eingelagert:

Die Comicserie Gespenster Geschichten erschien von März 1974 bis März 2006 anfangs 14-täglich, später wöchentlich als Großband im Bastei-Verlag. Es erschienen insgesamt 1654 Ausgaben, die Serie Gespenster Geschichten war damit die erfolgsreichste des Bastei-Verlages und gemessen an der Anzahl der Ausgaben und an der Länge des Erscheinungszeitraums eine der erfolgreichsten Comicserien in Deutschland.

Dead Drops: P2P-Netzwerk im Öffentlichen Raum

Aram Bartholl zementiert USB-Sticks im öffentlichen Raum in New York ein. Das Projekt nennt sich Dead Drops, was übersetzt Toter Briefkasten heisst – und mich ein wenig an meine Detektivspielerei als Kind erinnert ... Ein Flickr-Set zur Aktion gibts hier, mehr Infos in seinem Blog:

Der japanische Künstler Tatsuya Morino gilt als Experte für Yōkai-Manga. Pink Tentacle hat ein paar sehr schöne Illustrationen von ihm gepostet, in denen es allerdings weniger um Monster aus der japanischen Mythologie, sondern überwiegend um klassische, westliche Horror-Literatur geht.

Planzen aus Plants vs Zombies im Einweckglas

Vermutlich wohne ich im Haushalt mit der höchsten Plants vs Zombies Pro-Kopf-Spielzeit in Hamburg. Insofern – und weil man ihn nicht gießen muss – wäre der Peashooter (siehe oben) von AnUnclesMonkey die ideale Zimmerpflanze für uns gewesen. Ist aber leider schon ausverkauft. Schade. Kernel Pult und Hypnoshroom finde ich zwar auch gelungen, gefallen mir aber lange nicht so gut.

Astrofotografie: The Darkest Possible Sky

Astrofotograf Stéphane Guisard hat nach dem Platz auf der Erde gesucht, an dem es nachts am wenigsten Lichtverschmutzung gibt, um den "darkest possible sky" zu fotografieren. Gefunden hat er ihn in der Atacamawüste in Chile. Bei Astrosurf kann man in das Foto reinzoomen, außerdem gibts eine 360° und Panorama-Ansicht. Atemberaubend ...

I was wondering what conditions should be met to have the "darkest" sky ... Well, obviously there should be no Moon light. The Milky Way and zodiacal light should not be visible neither, and the image should be taken at a place with no light pollution. If these are correct criteriae, the following picture must be very close to what the "darkest" sky could be. The following image was taken at new Moon (No Moon light), middle of the night (minimum zodiacal light effect), in the Atacama desert close to Paranal observatory (no light pollution). The chosen place for this picture has the particularity to be located at a latitude which value is close to the declination of the galactic southern pole. The picture was therefore also taken when the galactic pole passes at zenith, ensuring that there is no Milky Way up in the sky. When all these conditions are met, the very faint Gegenschein becomes visible. Like the zodiacal light, the gegenschein is sunlight reflected by interplanetary dust. Most of this dust is orbiting the sun in about the ecliptic plane. The first image of this kind ever taken was made a few years ago here.. The "by product" of this image is that the Milky Way plane lies all around the horizon as visible in this 360 degrees panoramic view ..." The darkest sky? Milky Way all around the horizon line and Gegenschein.
