Stephen Shames: The Bronx
"The Bronx" ist ein beeindruckendes Langzeit-Projekt des Fotografen Stephen Shames, der ein paar Jugendliche aus der Bronx zwei Jahrzehnte lang begleitet und ihr Aufwachsen zwischen Drogen, Gewalt und Gangs dokumentiert hat. Leider lassen sich die Fotos nicht direkt verlinken, deshalb hier klicken und dann rechts "The Bronx" auswählen. Das Ganze gibts für 20 Dollar auch als Buch.
Bronx Boys is an intimate photo essay about the lives of young people in the Bronx during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Shot over two decades by photojournalist Stephen Shames, Bronx Boys takes the viewer inside the lives of young people living at the epicenter of a crack cocaine epidemic that devastated their community. The story tracks their childhood on the streets, their loves and losses. Tolles Doppelposting von F.A.T zu QR-Codes: Zum einen gibts einen Stencil Generator, mit dem sich Vorlagen für QR-Code-Sprühschablonen herstellen lassen, zum anderen ein Überblick über HOBO-Codes und einen arschvoll zeitgemäße Zinken in QR-Code (auch als Vorlage im PDF-Format, falls jemand Ambitionen hat... ). Die folgenden bedeuten der Reihe nach: "bad coffee, "strong phone signal und "insecure WiFi".

Ich habe nicht einen Song von Marilyn Manson im Plattenregal stehen oder auf der Festplatte liegen und auch nicht vor, daran irgendwann was zu ändern. Als Cover von einer Roboter Band lasse ich mir das aber schon mal gefallen. Aus der Videobeschreibung:
"Intially I was working on my own version of Mad World and I did complete it however the Robot Cello didn't work out because the sound of the solenoids and stepper motor was drowning out the song. So I scrapped the project altogether. One night I was working on the Cello and the stepper motor started to jitter almost ripping the Cello sting and Bow apart. As I was jumping over to the power switch I noticed that the jittery sound reminded me of a song. That song turned out to be The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson. I programmed a small part for the Cello and it sounded great. Who would have ever though to use a Cello in that song? 2 months later.... my video was complete. So Enjoy..."

Neal Fox: Beware of the God
Neal Fox hat für sein Projekt "Beware of the God", das noch bis zum 10. August 2011 in London zu sehen ist, zwölf Kirchenfenster hergestellt und mit popkulturellen Ikonen wie Hunter S. Thompson, Albert Hofmann, etc. bemalt.
"As traditional church windows show the iconography of saints, through representations of events in their lives, instruments of martyrdom and iconic motifs, Fox plays with the symbolism of each character’s cult of personality; Albert Hoffman takes a psychedelic bicycle ride above the LSD molecule, J G Ballard dissects the world, surrounded by 20th Century imagery and the eroticism of the car crash, and Johnny Cash holds his inner demon in chains after a religious experience in Nickerjack cave. One quality in particular binds these characters and the others together; a refusal to conform and conviction in their own ideology. Working with traditional methods ... Cecil Otter und Swiss Andy haben die legendären Fugazi mit dem Wu-Tang Clan gemasht. Das Album heißt Wugazi und ist ein ziemlicher Knaller:

Die Atlantis ist heute zu ihrer letzten Mission ins All gestartet und mit ihr endet nach rund 30 Jahren das Space-Shuttle-Programm der NASA. Ich kann mich gut erinnern, wie ich mir in den frühen 80ern sämtliche Shutttle-Starts im Fernsehen angesehen habe. Damals waren die Shuttles für mich zusammen mit der Comet eines gewissen Captain Future die besten Raumschiffe der Welt (vor der Enterprise, Star Wars habe ich erst ein paar Jahre später gesehen) – möglich, dass deshalb der Soundtrack im Video (ab 0:11) etwas seltsam ...
