Das ist einfach brillant, klingt wunderbar schräg und lässt mein Herz um 0,985248 MHz höher schlagen: The Bit-52's sind eine aus Teilen von Retro-Computern bzw. Peripherie geschaffene Roboter-Band, die allein den B-52's gewidmet ist. Aus der Videobeschreibung noch das Line-up:

Fred's Vocals - TI99/4a computer, speech synthesizer and terminal emulator ii module
Kate and Cindy's Vocals - Two HP Scanjet 3C scanners, UBunto and sjetplay written by NuGanjaTron
The Guitar, Keyboard, Cow Bell, Cymbal and Tambourine are all controlled by various types of push/pull solenoinds for a total of 23. The Solenoids are powered by four ULN2803 darlington drivers and everything is controlled by two PIC16F84A microcontrollers.

Unterirdisches Kankenhaus in einer Salzmine

Asthmatikern und vielen Allergikern hilft salzige Seeluft. Wie ich gerade gelernt habe, kann man sich aber auch in eine Salzmine legen, was sich dann Speläotherapie nennt. Keine Ahnung ob die was taugt, aber bei Wired gibts einen interessanten Artikel über ein unterirdisches Krankenhaus in der Ukraine mit Fotos von Kirill Kuletski.

For decades, the tunnels of the Solotvyno Salt Mine in Ukraine have hosted subterranean convalescents. Kurz nachdem ein gewisser Juri Alexejewitsch Gagarin als erster Mensch im Weltraum war, schrieb im April 1961 ein mit der Gesamtsituation im Outer Space völlig unzufriedener John F. Kennedy ein Memo an seinen Vize Lyndon B. Johnson.

Vielleicht habe ich früher zu oft Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi und Naqoyqatsi gesehen, dass eine gewisse Zeitraffer-Sättigung bei mir bis heute anhält. Inter // States hat mir aber trotzdem ganz gut gefallen, weil ich Tokio schon immer faszinierend fand, erst recht bei Nacht und außerdem die Musik hervorragend passt.

Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich hier von Back to the Future 2 inspirierte Power Laces. Inzwischen hat Blake Bevin ein Update entworfen, das in Massenproduktion gehen könnte – vorausgesetzt es kommt über Kickstarter, wo sie ihr Projekt gepostet hat, bis zum 11. Oktober 2010 genug Geld zusammen:

"Every fan of Back to the Future remembers the shoes that Marty Mcfly donned in 2015 that autolaced on to his foot and his exclaimation: "Power Laces- alright!" ... I will develop and finalize a marketable version and mass produce it. The next version will operate under a different, more efficient mechanism, and will be more suitable for everyday use. In vielen Städten gibt es mittlerweile (gefühltermaßen) so viele Überwachungskameras wie Tauben. Insofern passt es ganz gut, dass Thomas voor 't Hekke und Bas van Oerle für ihr Projekt panoptICONS in Utrecht Vögel mit Kameras statt Köpfen aufgestellt haben. Aus der Videobeschreibung:

‘panoptICONS’ addresses the fact that you are constantly being watched by surveillance cameras in city centres. The surveillance camera seems to have become a real pest that feeds on our privacy. To represent this, camera birds - city birds with cameras instead of heads - were placed throughout the city centre of Utrecht where they feed on our presence. In addition, a camera bird in captivity was displayed to show the feeding process and to make the everyday breach of our privacy more personal and tangible.
