Light Painting WiFi

Light Painting WiFi ist ein Projekt von Timo Arnall, Jørn Knutsen und Einar Sneve Martinussen, die sich einen vier Meter langen Stab mit LED-Lichtquellen gebastelt haben, damit durch Oslo gewandert sind und mit Hilfe von Langzeitbelichtung WiFi-Signale und deren Reichweite sichtbar gemacht haben:

"The city is filled with an invisible landscape of networks that is becoming an interwoven part of daily life. WiFi networks and increasingly sophisticated mobile phones are starting to influence how urban environments are experienced and understood. We want to explore and reveal what the immaterial terrain of WiFi looks like and how it relates to the city."

Podcast: Untote sterben länger - Der Zombie geht in Ruhestand

Beim Zündfunk Generator auf Bayern2 läuft zur Zeit die dreiteilige Reihe "Wir müden Untoten". Im zweiten Teil gehts um Zombies:

"Sie fressen gern Mensch und marodieren ruhelos in Horden über unsere Erde. Die Geburtsstunde des modernen Zombies war im Jahre 1968. Vor dem Hintergrund des Vietnamkrieges hat Regisseur George A. Wer Zombie-Filme nicht nur schaut, sondern das Genre auch etwas reflektiert, erfährt zwar nicht unbedingt was Neues, mir hat der Podcast aber trotzdem gefallen. Und Marcus Stiglegger, Filmwissenschaftler und Autor von "Terrorkino - Angst/Lust und Körperhorror" analysiert meiner Meinung ziemlich treffend, warum die Zombie-Sache ihren Zenith überschritten hat.

Streetview Zombie Apocalypse von Mike Lacher ist ein kurzweiliges Google Streetview-Mashup ganz nach meinem Geschmack: Einfach Adresse eingeben und vor den Untoten flüchten. Ich bin eben durch halb Hamburg gerannt, habe dann aber leider in meiner verpixelten Nachbarschaft erst die Orientierung und dann mein Leben verloren. Das Spiel macht Spass, funktioniert aber nur mit Chrome und notfalls mit Safari. Ich bin dann mal noch ne Runde um den Block drehen ...

Das Life Magazin hat 1964 ein Fotoshooting mit Mobot gemacht und dabei ein paar weitere nützliche Funktionalitäten entdeckt ...

Micromachina von Scott Bain

Eigentlich bin ich kein großer Fan von Taxidermie. Respekt vor der Kreatur und so. Die präparierten Insekten von Scott Bain heben sich allerdings deutlich ab vom ausgestopften Mist, den ich sonst so zu sehen bekommt. Fotos seiner Micromachina gibts bei Behance:

This exhibition experiments using real taxidermy beetles as mechanised shells, to show how we mistreat our fellow inhabitants, forcing them to do our will. Ravenna Ultra-Low-Altitude Vehicle: Raumschiff-Baumhaus

Das Ravenna Ultra-Low-Altitude Vehicle ist ein baumhausartiges Raumschiff, das sich eine Familie in Ravenna bei Seattle in ihren Garten gebaut hat. Wer denkt, da hätte jemand für sein Kind schnell was zusammengenagelt ist auf dem Holzweg:

"The RULAV is a hexagonal capsule, 2.3 meters high, atop a tripod 2.3 meters high, for an overall height of about 4.6 meters. It is about 2 meters across at its widest point. The frame is welded mild steel with riveted aluminum skin. It contains nearly 800 LEDs forming dozens of numeric displays spread across 14 control panels, each with an acrylic face laser-cut and etched with labels such as "Lunar Distance" and "Hydraulic Pressure". The pilot controls the rocket using a joystick and panels full of working switches, knobs and buttons. Underneath the capsule are three "thrusters" that shoot plumes of water and compressed air under the control of the pilot's joystick, simulating real positioning thrusters. Takeoff and docking sequences are augmented by a paint-shaker that simulates the vibration of a rocket engine. Sound effects complete the illusion, with a powered subwoofer that gives the rocket a satisfying rumble. Behind the scenes, rocket operations are controlled by three Atmega328 microprocessors on custom-fabricated printed circuit boards, running a small operating system, RULOS, that we built just for this project. The processors communicate using an in-rocket TWI network and will eventually talk back to the house over a serial port. A trench running from the house to the rocket carries 12VDC power for the lighting and electronics, water for the thrusters, compressed air, and several data signals."

Jude Buffum, an dessen Koopa, It’s What’s For Supper sich bestimmt noch einige erinnern, hat ein paar hübsche 8-Bit-Terrarien entworfen, die man sich bei Flickr (1/2/3) oder in seinem Blog anschauen kann. Erinnert an Plants vs. Zombies im Einweckglas, gefällt mir aber trotzdem gut.
