Auto Ink: Automatic Tattoo Machine
Chris Eckert hat eine vollautomatische Tätowier-Maschine konstruiert, die super aussieht aber leider nur für religiöse Fanatiker oder volltrunkene Ungläubige taugt:
"Auto Ink is a three axis numerically controlled sculpture. Once the main switch is triggered, the operator is assigned a religion and it’s corresponding symbol is tattooed onto the persons arm. The operator does not have control over the assigned symbol. Migrationsdaten als topografische Lego-Karte
Der Künstler Samuel Granados hat Migrationsdaten mit Hilfe von Lego visualisiert:
"His project is very funny: a 3D cartogram about emigration and inmigration between american countries. But in true 3D: made with Lego pieces, as he explains, "to seize the space of the exhibition" and "allow you to watch teh cartogram from different perspectives". Biolumineszenz vor Sternenhimmel
Keine Alieninvasion und kein Photoshop, sondern ein klasse Foto von Phil Hart, der per Langzeitbelichtung biolumineszente Algen vor dem Sternenhimmel fotografiert hat. Hier noch mehr Biolumineszenz, die zum Teil ein bisschen an TRON erinnert und der zugehörige Artikel, in dem Phil Hart über seine Faszination für leuchtende Organismen schreibt.

Microchip Paintings
Yuri Zupancec bemalt Microchips mit Ölfarbe und benutzt dabei seine Augenbrauen als Pinsel. Über die Motive kann man streiten, mich hauen seine Gemälde nicht unbedingt vom Hocker. Aber allein um mal "Oil on Microchip" bloggen zu können, ist es mir die Sache wert.

Iconic Photos: Case Study House No. 22 (Stahl House)
Iconic Photos ist ein Blog, auf das ich schon länger mal hinweisen wollte. Dort werden nicht nur einfach besondere Fotos gepostet, sondern auch Hintergründe zu den Bildern geliefert. Zum Beispiel das Foto von House No. 22, das bestimmt einige aus Film und Fernsehen kennen:
"Between the mid-1940s and the mid-1960s, major architects of the day were invited to design affordable and efficient model homes, and some thirty of them were built, mostly in Southern California. The sponsor of this ambitious project was the Californian magazine Arts & Architecture, which engaged an architectural photographer named Julius Shulman to dutifully record them ... Fittingly for Shulman, one of the first architectural photographers to include the inhabitants of homes in the pictures, his most famous image was the 1960 view of Pierre Koenig’s Case Study House No. 22 (also the Stahl House), which showed two well-dressed women conversing casually inside ... In the photo, the cantilevered living room appears to float diaphanously above Los Angeles ... Yet this view was created as meticulously as the house itself. Wide-angle photography belied the actual smallness of the house; furniture and furnishings were staged, and as were the women. Although they were not models (but rather girlfriends of architectural students), they were asked to sit still in the dark as Shulman exposed the film seven minutes to capture lights from LA streets. Then, lights inside were quickly switched on to capture two posing women ..."

Schöne Aktion, sollte man und frau für die nächste Demo im Hinterkopf behalten: In Russland sind ein paar Frauen losgezogen und haben massenhaft Polizistinnen in der U-Bahn abgeknutscht. Wurde zuerst dem Künstlerkollektiv Voina (deren Pimmelbrücke ich mal gastgebloggt hatte) zugesprochen, die haben aber dementiert:

Algorithmus-Säulen aus Pappe
Hat mich mein Blog mal so reich gemacht hat, dass ich mir eine Villa kaufen kann, lasse ich mir in die Eingangshalle von Michael Hansmeyer ein paar seiner Säulen aus 2700 Schichten Pappe bauen, deren Form er mit einen saukomplizierten Algorithmus berechnet. Die dorischen Polygonen-Monster sind so vertrackt, dass sämtliche 3D-Druckereien passen müssen und er die Dinger per Hand fertigt:
"Michael Hansmeyer uses algorithms invented by Pixar and painstaking handicraft to generate columns with dizzying detail. When people mistake photographs of your physical prototypes for computer renderings, you know you've achieved something amazing. That's exactly what happened when Michael Hansmeyer showed off his "computational architecture" column, created by iterating a subdivision algorithm over and over again and then fabricating it out of cardboard. Hansmeyer's column stands nine feet tall, weighs about 2000 pounds, and is made out of 2700 1mm-thin slices of cardboard stacked on top of wooden cores. Light Painting WiFi
Light Painting WiFi ist ein Projekt von Timo Arnall, Jørn Knutsen und Einar Sneve Martinussen, die sich einen vier Meter langen Stab mit LED-Lichtquellen gebastelt haben, damit durch Oslo gewandert sind und mit Hilfe von Langzeitbelichtung WiFi-Signale und deren Reichweite sichtbar gemacht haben:
"The city is filled with an invisible landscape of networks that is becoming an interwoven part of daily life. WiFi networks and increasingly sophisticated mobile phones are starting to influence how urban environments are experienced and understood.
