Floppytable 3.5 – Couchtisch in Disketten-Form

Bicycle Taxidermy first began on a couple of memento mori for my father’s once prized but long discarded mountain and road bikes. A somewhat sentimental take on a mass produced object becoming defunct, the handlebars are given the care and craft of a preserved family pet(!) The bikes have now been re-appropriated as a family heirloom. Crafted in London; the taxidermy service mounts a client’s steed on a scorched or bleached European oak plaque ... Chrome mounting brackets fix the stem above a stainless steel epitaph etched in Argyll, Scotland, the plaque denotes the horned beasts model, pet name, dates ridden and a commemorative verse. Just fill in the epitaph field on the site and I’ll get it engraved and send out the plaque for you to mount yourself.

Prometheus VFX breakdown & Honest Trailer

YouTube: Prometheus VFX breakdown (via PolkaRobot)

Pilzperspektive quasi:
The whole level is wrapped around itself in a single surface, and poor Mario begins and ends at the same spot every time :( All the elements from the level are there: every mushroom, turtle, cloud and star. They are all carved out of the surface at different heights, which looks fantastic when you have a light coming from the side, and each block casts a shadow.

Game of Thrones Season 2 FX reel

YouTube: Game of Thrones Season 2 FX reel (via io9)

Alles über Kaffee – The Compendious Coffee Chart

A comprehensive compendium of the varied ways--from Chemex contraptions to French presses to the simple automatic drip--to produce wondrous, life-giving coffee, as well as the drinks one can concoct by combining coffee with mixers like steamed milk and chocolate.

"An amateur gunsmith, operating under the handle of "HaveBlue" (incidentally, "Have Blue" is the codename that was used for the prototype stealth fighter that became the Lockheed F-117), announced recently in online forums that he had successfully printed a serviceable .22 caliber pistol. Despite predictions of disaster, the pistol worked. It successfully fired 200 rounds in testing. HaveBlue then decided to push the limits of what was possible and print an AR-15 rifle. To do this, he downloaded plans for an AR-15 in the Solidworks file format from a site called CNCGunsmith.com. After some small modifications to the design, he fed about $30 of ABS plastic feedstock into his late-model Stratasys printer. The result was a functional AR-15 rifle. Early testing shows that it works, although it still has some minor feed and extraction problems to be worked out. HaveBlue has also been testing the "marketplace" for 3-D printing weapons. To do this he asked Thingiverse, the 3-D design sharing site run by Makerbot Industries, whether it was permissible to post weapons designs or not. According to HaveBlue, Makerbot's senior leadership decided to not disallow, but to discourage, the posting of weapons designs. Haveblue then posted a design for an AR-15 part on Thingiverse, but in the intensive legal discussion that followed Haveblue's posting, Thingiverse decided to ban weapons designs outright. However, since Haveblue's design is still on the site, it's unclear whether Thingiverse is enforcing a ban or not. While there are still some details to sort out, it's pretty clear that making weapons at home using 3-D printers from commonly available materials is going to become much more commonplace in the near future. In fact, as 3-D printing technology matures, materials feedstock improves, and designs for weapons proliferate, we might soon see the day when nearly everyone will be able to print the weapons of their choice in the numbers they desire, all within the privacy of their own homes.

Fotos gibts hier.
This para-functional invitation – is a result of three years of research based on function paradoxes within design objects and designed spaces. One of the most important element in the project is human’s inherent wish to find one’s own space, to have a secret, to differ, to find such place from which one could watch others but could stay unseen at the same time. The other aspect is a will to be higher, to be raised over the ground – this is the instinct of safety. The idea was inspired from the author’s enjoyment to spend time on roofs and from admiration of old roofs since childhood ...

Wassermelonen-Schnitzereien

Sparksfly Design macht tolle Wassermelonen-Schnitzereien.

The Evolution of 8-Bit Art

YouTube: The Evolution of 8-Bit Art (via Superlevel

Die PBS Arts in ihrer Webserie "OFF BOOK" diesmal über 8-Bit-Ästhetik.
Beginning with early Atari and Nintendo video games, the 8-bit aesthetic has been a part of our culture for over 30 years. As it moved through the generations, 8-bit earned its independence from its video game roots. The idea of 8-bit now stands for a refreshing level of simplicity and minimalism, is capable of sonic and visual beauty, and points to the layer of technology that suffuses our modern lives. No longer just nostalgia art, contemporary 8-bit artists and chiptunes musicians have elevated the form to new levels of creativity and cultural reflection.
