With Hurricane Sandy approaching the New York metro area, the nation's eyes are turning to its largest city. Photos of storms and flooding are popping up all over Twitter, and while many are real, some of them -- especially the really eye-popping ones -- are fake. This post, which will be updated over the next couple of days, is an effort to sort the real from the unreal. It's a photograph verification service, you might say, or a pictorial investigation bureau. If you see a picture that looks fishy, send it to me at alexis.madrigal[at]gmail.com.

Wordpharmacy is a concrete poetical work, which playfully equates the structure of language with pharmaceutical products. It consists of ten medicine boxes, each representing one of the ten word-groups. Each box contains a leaflet that functions as an instructional poem, guiding the reader’s ingestion of the given word group.

Making of: Wipeout Quantum Levitation Hoax

"As part of a University project (CentreNAD, Montreal), our team of five students was given six weeks to create a viral hoax using computer generated imagery featuring real footage integration ..."
Beide Videos (Hoax und Making of) nach dem Klick ...

iPoo Toilet

Unlike some Apple products, this toilet fully supports Flush: iPoo Toilet von Milos Paripovic
iPoo Toilet is a prestigious designer toilet. We do not say it is a PT (Personal Toilet) even though it is not a public toilet ... This toilet has exactly the same function as any other toilet and costs only twice as much for the same performance; but you will agree it is all about style and taste, and you will look a lot cooler in your friends’ eyes when you say you use the iPoo Toilet instead of throwing your excrement through the bathroom WINDOWS ...

Sonnenpillen

This commercial isn't real, neither are society's standards of beauty.

When wishes are out of reach, simulation is taking over our leisure time and our holidays. Imaginary worlds are created, often under massive technological exertion, in order to offer us experience as reproducible merchandise. Although the quality of these adventures on demand sometimes proves to be rather dubious, the boom does shed light on one thing: the yearnings and dreams underlying people’s daily lives.

Kim Jong-Il Dropping the Bass

Everyday we find more and more indications, that Earth-like planets are all around. Life beyond the Earth becomes increasingly likely. We are no longer alone in the universe. Wouldn’t it be great if those extrasolar planets are not only big hunks of stone and ice with just here and there some bacterial live, but really beautiful planets. Where the nature is as pristine, like Earth was, before we left our Ecological footprint. It made me think: “What if we could travel to these extrasolar planets?” Celebrating vacations. It would be like the time that each holiday was a trip to the unknown. A discovery. As on these posters from the 1930s, countries and cities that you knew only of images and hearsay. The images were innocent and exotic. Pure.

Calvin and Hobbes als NES Game

"Like most guys my age, I grew up reading Calvin and Hobbes religiously. It is by far my favorite comic strip of all time, and I still enjoy revisiting it from time to time. Unfortunately, author Bill Watterson was notoriously tight-stringed when it came to releasing licensed material of good ol’ Calvin and Hobbes ... I can’t help but think that the strip and video games are a match made in heaven. As such, I took it upon myself to create a mockup for the game that an entire generation wishes was real ..." Calvin and Hobbes Nintendo Box Art

Hoxton Street Monster Supplies + Museum of Unnatural History
