Impersonators: Traurige Superhelden- und Promi-Darsteller

Als Kommentar zum sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Niedergang der USA hat Nicolas Silberfaden für seine Reihe "Impersonators" traurig dreinschauende Superhelden- und Promi-Darsteller fotografiert. Die Idee ist weder neu noch subtil, trotzdem sind die Fotos durchaus sehenswert.

Due to the current economic, social and cultural crisis in The United States of America today, I have decided to do a photographic project consisting of a series of studio portraits of superhero and celebrity impersonators that live and work in the city of Los Angeles. Most of them unemployed Americans, they decided to suit up with their costumes and hit the streets, animate parties and events in efforts to make ends meet. Making them pose in their costumes against a colorful backdrop, I ask them to manifest feelings of genuine sadness – honest emotions that are a consequence of our current times. The result is a somber, striking visual image that contradicts the iconic nature of strength and moral righteousness typical in American superhero and celebrity imagery. Creating the illusion that Superman does exist – that he too was fallible and affected by America’s downturn.

Guillaume Reymond alias NOTsoNOISY, dessen Mensch als Pixel Projekt Game Over vor ein paar Jahren (nicht nur) durch die Blogs ging, hat zusammen mit Trivial Mass Production und jede Menge Helfern eine ziemlich geniale Mensch-Architektur-Perfomance choreographiert:

"These are 110 students, staff and friends of the HESAV(High School of Health Vaud) who have participated in this new performance from the Swiss artist NOTsoNOISY Guillaume Reymond and Trivial Mass Production: a titanic work but ultra fun resulting in an incredible video in which we discover a tower whose the facade is animated by many patterns such as a VJ lo-fi 8bits screening. But in this case there is no projector and this is just manually moving the windows and shutters on 11 floors and 10 rows that magic operates simulating the pixels of a giant rudimentary screen (10x11 pixels )."

Dem Burnster seine Gebruder Grim haben gerade mit "Bamberg Apocalypse" ihr erstes Album rausgebracht. Läuft bei mir seit gestern in Dauerschleife – obwohl Metal und ich nicht unbedingt beste Freunde sind (eigentlich hab ich zuerst nur aus Neugier reingehört). Das Ding gibts neben iTunes und Amazon auch bei Bandcamp, dort sogar in voller Länge im Stream. Nach ein paar Durchläufen hab ich's mir dann trotzdem gekauft. Wenn Metal nur immer so klingen würde ...

Sprites im Leerlauf. Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind, dann warten sie noch heute ...

An homage dedicated to the Super Nintendo & my childhood. The idea of the video is as the title suggests. The sprites that are featured in the video are seen in their idle animations or left alone to be pummeled, etc. I tried fitting in as many games as I could that featured sprites in a classic side-scrolling style. Besides being zoomed in, all of the footage is in it's original emulated state/speed without manipulation. Quite a few of the games had multiple characters to choose from. For the most part, I tried keeping it to one selection per game. One thing that I focused on was choosing female characters, there aren't that many female stars in video games... So, some majority fan favorites were left out ...

Selbstporträts vom Mars Rover Curiosity

Unser einsame Freund Curiosity funkt weiter Fotos zur Erde. Darunter Selbstporträts, die ich einfach mal poste. Weil irgendwie doch total irre: Ein Rover kurvt auf dem Mars rum, schickt regelmäßig Bilder, die ich auf einem Touchscreen-Device ansehe, und mir kommt das schon fast selbstverständlich vor – dabei ist das, was da gerade passiert, pure Science Fiction ...

Das Inventar schwedischer Twens

Die schwedische Fotografin Sannah Kvist hat für ihre Serie "All I own" ein paar Altersgenossen ihren kompletten Besitz zu Bergen anhäufen und daneben posieren lassen. Die Fotografierten sind alle in den 80ern geboren und zählen zur ersten Generation in Schweden, der es finanziell schlechter als ihren Eltern geht. Leider bildet die Serie keinen Bevölkerungs-Querschnitt ab, weil alle mit akademischen Hintergrund. Aber interessant, wie wenig Krempel die haben, zumal immer mal wieder behauptet wird, diese Generation sei egoistischer und materialistischer als die vorherigen. Und überhaupt, wenn ich da mal an meine drölf Millionen Umzüge denke ...

Weil ABOVE den Umgang mit Social Media nicht so toll findet, pinselt er in einer fünftägigen Aktion seine Kritik an eine Wand, macht dabei 9000 Fotos, aus denen er ein Stop-Motion-Video bastelt, welches er auf Vimeo lädt, mit der Bitte, seine Botschaft via Social Media zu verbreiten. Konsequent inkonsequent, aber immerhin erkennt er die Ironie. Und wegen dem Rebloggen: Gern geschehen.

People look at me like I’m from another planet when I tell them I don’t have social media like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. In the eyes of social media I’m severely outdated, lost and not ‘connected’.

Not partaking in the aforementioned social media makes me an outsider looking in on how hyper frequent society uses its sacred social media. I can’t help but observe the people around me who appear to be consumed and addicted to trying to keep up to speed on their social media pages.
You check your Facebook page while driving. Tweet a message that you ‘just took a shower’. Instagram a photo of your double soy macchiato with extra foam and so it continues ad infinitum.
I have more questions than I do answers with social media. We live in a ridiculously hyper fast pace life where information is exchanged so rapidly that it makes us feel inadequate and drains our attention span. This painting was executed at the GALORE festival in Copenhagen, Denmark. The painting is a time-lapse composed of over 9,000 photos and painted over a 5-day period. As irony has it this video will be reblogged and seen on social media outlets the world over. Please join in and reblog on your facebook and twitter accounts. Enjoy and try to keep up.
